Solution

Gensets for base stations

A 48 V DC genset charges the battery and feeds the site directly, without rectifiers. A variable-speed engine reduces consumption at low load; service is every 1,000 hours.

Why a conventional genset is inefficient at a base station

Low load

The site draws 2-5 kW while an AC genset is rated 10-20 kVA: it runs at low load and wastes fuel.

Double conversion

The genset AC output is rectified back to 48 V: extra losses and equipment.

Frequent site visits

Refuelling and service every 250-500 hours at a remote site.

Fuel theft

Without fuel level monitoring, a shortfall is only found at the next visit.

Solution

How it works

A 48 V DC genset paired with storage and solar: the genset only charges the battery and runs at optimal load.

  1. DaySolar panels feed the site and charge the battery.
  2. Night or overcastThe battery carries the load, the genset is stopped.
  3. Charge drops to thresholdThe 48 V genset starts and charges the battery at rated power.
  4. MonitoringFuel level, engine hours, alarms and refuelling forecast are visible in the monitoring system.
